El Andariego — meaning “the wanderer” or “one who travels far and wide”— reflects our family’s journey from El Salvador in search of a better life. With hard work, resilience, and the strength of family, we planted roots and opened El Andariego over 26 years ago to create a welcoming space for all. By blending Tex-Mex flavors with the rich culinary heritage of El Salvador, we honor our past and celebrate our present. Today, El Andariego is more than a restaurant — it’s a place where culture, family, and community come together. When you’re here, you’re family.
- Jaime, Cristina, Consuelo, & Jennifer
Founded in 1999 by Jaime and Cristina Vasquez, our restaurant is the result of a shared passion for hospitality and culture. With over 40 years of experience as Restaurant Manager at The Hay-Adams’ Lafayette Room, Jaime brought his leadership and commitment to excellence to the heart of the restaurant. Cristina, having spent more than seven years working her way through every position in Tex-Mex restaurants across the DMV area, brings warmth, heart, and hands-on experience that guests feel with every visit.
She’s also the creative force behind our beloved margaritas — customer favorites that keep friends coming back for another round. Together, Jaime and Cristina are the soul of the restaurant — you can’t leave without a hug from one of them.
Their daughter, Jennifer, grew up surrounded by the love and energy of the family business. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from Florida International University, she returned full-time to help carry on her parents’ legacy with a new generation of passion and purpose. Taking after her mother, Jennifer has a talent for crafting fun and creative cocktails that customers love, bringing fresh energy to the bar.
In 2014, Jaime’s sister, Consuelo Molina, joined the family team. With a rich background in Italian cuisine and years of experience in D.C.’s Italian restaurants, she returned to her Salvadoran roots, now leading the kitchen with care and precision. She’s the mastermind behind the consistency our guests have come to love — especially our famous salsa that we just can’t get enough of.
Rounding out the team is Ramon Vasquez, Jaime and Consuelo’s brother, who joined the family operation in 2015. With many years of experience at Positano Ristorante, focusing on banquets and events, Ramon brings a seasoned perspective and a deep sense of hospitality to every guest experience.
Together, we are more than a restaurant — we are a family dedicated to sharing our culture, flavors, and traditions with every plate served.
Every week, Cristina—our owner and heart behind the restaurant—creates fresh flower arrangements to brighten your visit. It’s our little tradition that guests look forward to, adding a touch of beauty and love to every meal.
